Even the best laid plans can go awry.<\/p>\n

It can be tricky when things change on a dime and don’t go quite as planned. At Museum Hack, we know situations can take an unexpected turn, and we pride ourselves on thinking fast on our feet and coming up with new ways to make the best of any situation.<\/p>\n

Earlier this summer, a few members of our staff had the opportunity to flex their improv muscles in a big way when they traveled to sunny Miami Beach to work on an annual conference for a global data analytic company. Company execs were familiar with our work and wanted to bring us to help spice up their annual company-wide conference. Our guides had previously led team building workshops for some of their offices and they knew we could engage their clients in new, interesting ways. We led hour-long tours for their guests at the conference’s host hotel, telling stories about the hotel’s amazing history, revealing disaster tales, and giving guests tips and tricks for getting the most out of the conference.<\/p>\n

Making Unexpected Situations Work For Us<\/h3>\n

Our first few tours of the hotel had just a handful of guests. We faced a somewhat uphill battle gaining interest, as we were a last-minute addition to the conference, so our team quickly began brainstorming ways to help the company make extraordinary connections with their guests. We led scavenger hunts of the exhibition hall, employed ourselves as “bar butterflies,” mingling with guests to gain feedback from clients to pass along to the company, and even hosted the conference-wide party on the last night of the event – playing games, awarding prizes, and emceeing the evening.<\/p>\n

While we may have entered the conference in relatively obscurity, our innovative brand of storytelling and making genuine connections with attendees helped us as the conference went on. We led more and more tours and gained notoriety among the conference guests. One of our guides spoke proudly about the team’s accomplishments at the conference.<\/p>\n

Our team loved the learning experience in Miami Beach! With only two days of prep for the four-day event, we exercised our ability to plan and then scrap nearly the whole thing in order to adapt to the changing environment.
